The Cold Side Technician is responsible for supporting of cold side production. This position is responsible for the tasks and/or functions of a work assignment to be performed are specified in the associated job description. Work assignments consists of Cement Lining Technician, Packaging Technician, Shipping Technician, Material Handler, Processing Technician, Pipe Trucker, Zinc Technician and Grinder. Employees assigned to the Cold Side department can be assigned to perform any one of the stated work assignments as necessary. This position will observe confidentiality of all customer and company information.
Essential Functions:
- Applying a uniform and consistent coat of paint to the inside diameter and outside diameter of pipe.
- Weighing up and loading specified quantity of cement, sand and water in a power mixer and create a satisfactory batch by activating power mixer.
- Applying a uniform and consistent cement lining to the inside diameter of pipe through the operation of cement lining machinery.
- Patching and repairing the cement lining in pipe and to clean and remove cement and water from bell sockets.
- Using compressed air to clean moisture and debris from the inside surface of pipe.
- Covering pipe data on outside of pipe surface with masking tape.
- Ensuring that pipe is properly aligned on pipe skids.
- Operating pipe turnaround equipment to position pipe for packages in alternating order of pipe bell and spigot and to ensure that proper spigot stripe and good quality stencil are applied to each pipe.
- Performing minor salvage and touch up work on pipe prior to being placed in storage.
- Filling in on jobs in the Packaging department for absent employees
- Providing assistance to Packaging employees in the performance of their job duties and to perform miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Working with Forklift Operators and manually prepares trucks or rail cars for loading pipes
- Assisting in directing placement and performs functions to secure load.
- Using and operating equipment for the purpose of packaging finished pipe into standardize size bundles for storage and shipment.
- Performing variety of banding and blocking operations to assure stability of pipe bundles.
- Inputting information in PIMS system by use of scanner or touch screen.
- Labeling all bundles with packing slip sticker and all other information required.
- Loading number, sales order number, vendor number, item number, and mark number.
- Receives incoming shipments of accessories, places in correct location. Prepares order requirements of accessories for shipment to customers from order listings. Maintains accessory inventory and reorders requirements. Checking outgoing shipments to make sure product and accessories are shipped correctly.

- Transporting pipe from the ends of the Pipe Run to other areas for additional processing.
- Keeping pipe rolled down on runs.
- Operating electric transfer truck to transport pipe along tracks from processing yard to cement lining runs.
- Weighing each pipe with pipe scales.
- Recording pipe weight, length and other data onto pipe.
- Recording production information such as scraps pieces and scrap reason and cut pipe and cut reason on standard forms.
- Marking pipe to indicate quality status and any additional processing requirements.
- Removing cement linings from interior surfaces of pipe through the operation of chipping lance car.
- Gauging pipes for full length dimensional acceptance.
- Rolling an align pipe runs and stacking of pipe on wooden timbers when necessary.
- Operating drop in station/kick out stations on the conveyor.
- Performing all functions of jobs in the zinc department.
- Rolling and align pipe on pipe runs.

- Performing touch up work on pipe, operate coating machine and apply specified coating to pipe o.d.
- Cleaning outside surface of pipe and conveyor system and the shot blast equipment.
- Cutting, tapering, grinding inside surface area of pipe and gasket retaining seat recess, and insure that pipe bell dimensions are acceptable and within specifications by gauging, grinding bells, and cool pipe with water.
